Benefits of Alder Cones in the Aquarium
• Additional food for shrimp and crabs
(Alder cones develop microorganisms over time, which are eagerly eaten by shrimp)
• Antiseptic properties, disease-preventative
• Increase spawning readiness in fish and help prevent egg fungus
• Excellent natural hiding spots for young shrimp
• Natural aquarium design and improvement of water quality
Recommended Usage
1 cone per 20 liters of water for 2 – 3 weeks
The most important feature of alder cones is their antibacterial effect. They are also said to combat fungi and parasites. Additionally, they slightly tint the water yellowish-brown. Some fish species prefer this coloration and display particularly vibrant colors in it.
Alder cones also slightly acidify the water. The degree of acidification depends on the total and carbonate hardness of the water. Noticeable acidification only occurs in soft water. In a test with a bucket of osmosis water with a carbonate hardness of 1, the pH dropped from 7.2 to 5.5 within 2 days.
